Should I hire a Coach, Mentor, or Consultant?
Or get a Therapist?
Your business is sputtering. You know something has to change. But where do you even start?
Coach? Mentor? Consultant? Therapist? What is the difference? And how do you choose which one you need to transform your outlook and get better results?
It is very simple, do you want to get a ready solution by an expert OR you want to find the best solution for you by YOU?
- Mentor (Expert) shares own experience which you may apply in your case
- Consultant (Expert) has ready solution for you
- Therapist (Expert) will figure out what stopping you from achieving your goal
- Coach (Equal partner) will partner with you in discovering revealing the true potential of yours within you

Examples in real life scenarios may make it easier to understand. Imagine you are having problems driving your car:
Therapist – A therapist will explore the factors stopping you from driving your car. What’s in your past that prevents you from getting behind the wheel and revving the engine? They dig into those issues and work with you to fix them so you can drive your car with ease whenever you wish.
Consultant – A consultant will advise you on how to drive the car – they’re the experts in manoeuvres, steering, and changing lanes. They’ve already mastered the driving process, figured out the most efficient way to do it, and they’re ready to pass on the knowledge to you.
Mentor – A mentor will share the effective tips they’ve gained from their own experience on the road. They’ve been driving a car for quite some time, and they want to spend time with you and share what they know about the process so that you too are successful
Coach – A coach will encourage and support you as you drive the car. There’s a lot of ‘asking’ and not much ‘telling.’ They work with you to tap into what you already know about driving, and help you break through your limiting beliefs by asking thought-provoking questions and shining a light on your strengths behind the wheel. Before you know it, you’re driving down the freeway and reaching speeds you only dreamt of in the past. A coach works with you now and the future. They don’t believe in problems; they instead look for solutions.
Coaching, mentoring, consulting or therapy – there are situations where we need all four. Which do you need most in your life right now?
